What decking demand looks like in Dallas

Build season
~11 months

DFW crews work nearly year-round, but brutal July and August heat pushes both labour and homeowner interest into the shoulder seasons.

Highest demand
Shade

Covered patios, pergolas and shade structures often outsell open decking here — the product Texans are buying is relief from the sun.

Site factor
Clay soil

North Texas expansive clay moves with moisture, making footing and pier detail a genuine differentiator in your quote.

What makes DFW different

Dallas–Fort Worth is one of the largest and fastest-growing metros in the country, with enormous suburban housing stock and big lots. On paper that's a decking contractor's dream. In practice, the Texas market has its own logic and contractors who advertise here like it's the Midwest waste money.

The core difference: Texans aren't primarily buying a deck, they're buying shade. An open deck in full North Texas sun is unusable for a large part of the year. Covered patios, pergolas, pavilions and shade structures frequently outperform straight decking in both demand and job value — and they carry better margins.

If your advertising only shows open decks, you're competing for a smaller slice of the market than you need to be.

The inverted season

Most of the country has one build season centred on summer. DFW effectively has two shoulder seasons with a hole in the middle.

  • February to May is the strongest window. Homeowners want the project finished before real heat arrives, which creates genuine, non-manufactured urgency you can use in your quoting.
  • July and August are difficult. Crews slow down, and homeowners aren't standing in the backyard imagining improvements when it's 103 degrees.
  • September to November is a strong second run as the weather turns pleasant and people start thinking about entertaining outdoors again.
  • Winter stays workable. Mild conditions mean the crew keeps building while northern contractors are shut down.

Contractors who advertise on a flat monthly budget across this shape are overspending in August and underspending in February. Getting the seasonal weighting right is one of the easier wins available in this market.

Clay soil is a selling point, not just a headache

North Texas sits on expansive clay that swells and shrinks with moisture. Homeowners here know this — most have dealt with foundation movement on the house itself, and many have watched a poorly-footed structure shift.

That's a genuine opportunity to differentiate. A quote that specifies pier depth and footing detail, and explains plainly why it matters in this soil, reads as competence to a Dallas homeowner in a way it wouldn't in Ohio. It also makes your quote hard to compare against a cheaper one that stayed vague — which is exactly the position you want to be in, as we argue in how to price a deck job for profit.

Materials in the Texas sun

  • Composite heat retention is a real objection. Dark composite boards get genuinely hot underfoot here. Contractors who address this proactively — lighter colours, shaded structures, honest guidance — build trust fast.
  • UV degradation is severe. Finishes fail sooner than manufacturers' general guidance suggests, which strengthens the case for low-maintenance materials.
  • Covered structures change the material calculation entirely, and often the job value with it.

How we run a DFW campaign

The Metroplex is large enough that targeting discipline matters more than almost anywhere else we work. Nobody serves Denton and Mansfield equally well, and paying to reach both is a straightforward way to burn budget.

  1. A radius set around where you'll actually drive, not the whole Metroplex.
  2. Creative built on your own projects, weighted toward covered and shaded builds where that's what you sell.
  3. Qualification before contact — size, material, timeframe — so you're not driving 40 minutes across the Metroplex for a tyre-kicker.
  4. Self-scheduling into your calendar, which is the main reason our campaigns average around a 78% show rate.
  5. Automated follow-up from the second the inquiry lands.

Live in roughly 48 hours from kickoff.

One DFW contractor

Dallas–Fort Worth is big, and we still only work with one deck builder here. The moment we took a second, we'd be selling the same homeowners twice — which is precisely the shared-lead problem our Dallas client left Angi to escape.

Book a call and we'll tell you immediately whether the territory is open.

A Dallas contractor, in their own words

★★★★★

“We've used Angi and HomeAdvisor for years. The quality here is way better — homeowners have seen our work, filled in a form, and picked a time themselves.”
